Bombo Radyo, Butuan mayor renew feud

-
BUTUAN CITY — After being accused of extorting P10,000 and spreading lies by the city government, a local radio station here, dxBR Bombo-Radyo challenged Butuan City Mayor Leonides Theresa "Daisy" Plaza to a debate on air to determine who is lying.

Bombo Radyo station manager Norbert Pagaspas, in his radio program, "Bombohanay Big Time" yesterday morning, said that the powerful political Plaza clan have not improved the quality of lives of many Butuanons and Agusanons who are still living in squatters spouting all over the city.

At one time, Pagaspas and Erwin Dano, a Bombo City Hall beat reporter, challenged anybody who has information that Bombo Radyo Butuan has extorted money from anybody in exchange of not divulging exposes’ and dared the city government to file extortion case against them.

The radio station manager even at one time called the city mayor and her media advisers "bobo" or ignorant repeatedly on air.

The renewed feud between the radio station and the city mayor started with news commentaries about the condition of the old Butuan City General Hospital, described by the Department of Health as "unfit and dangerous due to its dilapidated infrastructure."

There were also allegations of millions in commission for the acquisition of lot property of the new city hospital.

Mayor Plaza lambasted yesterday afternoon Bombo Radyo for "spreading lies" after the radio station allegedly failed to extort money from her. She urged city residents not to listen anymore to Bombo Radyo Butuan "because all it has done to Butuan City was to spread lies after lies."

She said, the Plaza are serving the Agusan del Sur, and the city of Butuan, because of their love of public service in helping the poorest of the poor. - Ben Serrano
