DAVAO CITY  Some 3,000 City Hall workers, mostly involved in street-cleaning and garbage collection, lost their jobs after their contracts were terminated yesterday due to lack of funds.
The city administration office said the terminated contractual employees drew their salaries from the peace and order fund under the mayor’s office.
Last week, Mayor Benjamin de Guzman, who lost to first district Rep. Rodrigo Duterte in the recent mayoral race, issued a memorandum terminating their services reportedly due to shortage of funds.
City administrator Nestor Ledesma, however, said delivery of services will not be affected until De Guzman steps down from office.  Edith Regalado
