Soldier dies, 6 others hurt in explosion

COTABATO CITY — A soldier was killed while six others were seriously wounded when a suspected partisan tossed an M-67 fragmentation grenade at a group of soldiers guarding an election canvassing site at the town hall of S.K. Pendatun, Maguindanao the other night.

Maj. Julieto Ando, spokesman of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, identified the fatality as Pfc. Dionisio Reyes, of the 47th Infantry Battalion.

Meanwhile, the municipal treasurer and two election officers of Bumbaran, Lanao del Sur were killed and two others were injured when their police escort went on a shooting rampage inside the police headquarters in Wao town the other day. — John Unson, Roel Pareño and Christina Mendez
