Undergo drug test, Osmeña’s son dared

CEBU CITY — The exchange of hostile words between Promdi vice gubernatorial candidate Celestino Martinez Jr. and Sen. John "Sonny" Osmeña has now extended to the senator’s son, provincial board member John Henry Gregory Osmeña.

Martinez dared the younger Osmeña, who is pitted against him in the vice gubernatorial race, to submit himself to a drug test to dispel suspicions that he is hooked on illegal drugs.

But Martinez did not end his challenge there.

The former fourth district congressman said he is willing to withdraw his candidacy if the younger Osmeña, nicknamed John-John, passes the drug test.

Martinez said talks have circulated that John-John is a drug addict.

Martinez volunteered the information when asked by reporters what could have possibly kept John-John from the proclamation rally of Alayon in Naga last Sunday.

John-John immediately dismissed Martinez’s challenge as a cheap political gimmick intended to ruin his candidacy.

Taking a drug test, he said, will only spur suspicions that he is really into drugs. "Why should I? I’m not guilty," he said. — Freeman News Service
