LDP-PnM elevated rights of women, kids on top of its agenda

As the nation starts the celebration of Women’s Month, the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Puwersa ng Masa yesterday elevated the rights of women and children on top of its priority agenda and vowed to fight for women’s welfare via its legislative measures and advocacy work.

In a press statement, the LDP-PnM senatorial candidates said most of its members have been long advocate of causes for gender equality.

Dr. Luisa Ejercito-Estrada, Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Jamby Madrigal represent the women in the LDP-PnM team. The other candidates – Edgardo Angara, Rueben Canoy, Noli de Castro, Juan Ponce Enrile, Gregorio Honasan, Panfilo Lacson, Jamby Madrigal, Orlando Mercado, Ricardo Puno, and Ombra Tamano are all committed to women issues, the statement said.

The LDP-PnM said that Dr. Estrada and Madrigal have been assigned to "champion" the fight for women in the legislature.

The thrust of the LDP agenda for women is "leveling the playing field."

The LDP said that women and men should have equal rights and no woman should be discriminated upon because of her gender.

In political and economic activities, men and women should be allowed to have the same opportunities.

The LDP-PnM even has a program for the empowerment of rural women, who, according to statistics, bear an immense burden in the struggle for survival.
