Cebu City mayor blames Tommy for garbage mess

CEBU CITY Mayor Alvin Garcia blamed yesterday his predecessor and erstwhile friend Tommy Osmeña for the garbage problem in the city.
In a general assembly of the Association of Barangay Councils, Garcia said the city would not have had problems in garbage collection if Osmeña had not given away 12 garbage trucks to other local governments during his term.
The mayor said that the city would have had enough trucks since the city received a total of 48 donated garbage trucks during Osmeñas term as mayor from 1988-1995.
Garcia said Osmeña gave away trucks to Ormoc, Dumaguete, Bais, Danao, Lapulapu and Mandaue as he was then seeking election as president of the League of Cities in 1992.
But Osmeña dismissed Garcia disclosures, saying the mayor only has ran out of excuses for his failure to solve the garbage collection problem.
"He has been mayor for six years and yet he is putting the blame on me," Osmeña said. Freeman News Service
