‘Empower women’

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Presidential Adviser for Children’s Affairs Jamby Santos-Madrigal, saying women play a vital role in shaping society, urged the empowerment of "the women of the Third World" so their children will not always be handicapped.

In her message at the 16th induction ceremonies for officers of the Macajalar Jaycees, an exclusive organization of women in this vibrant city, she also asked civil society to continue to help protect Filipino children from crimes like child abuse, child labor and incest.

She said women, especially those in the countryside, are also victims of abuses and have to be empowered to strengthen the "great role they play in raising a nation."

"By empowering women, we will be able to raise a future generation of empowered children," said Madrigal, a scion of two families of known public servants that included a Chief Justice and a senator.
