A large group of local government officials, led by Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas and members of civic groups in the province, joined her in the early morning walk that was also intended to draw children away from a life of crime.
She said the Alay Lakad Foundation-Batangas Chapter, which spearheaded the project, hoped to raise funds for projects like hog-raising, fishball-vending and skills training for thousands of out-of-school youths in the province.
"The project was a great success, judging from the support that it generated," said Madrigal, a known philantrophist and scion of a family of eminent public servants that included a senator and a Chief Justice.
