Cebuana triathlete bags silver in China

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuana triathlete Raven Faith Alcoseba received an early birthday gift after powering her way to a silver-medal finish in the 2026 Asia Triathlon Cup in Chongqing, China, marking the highest individual placing of her international career.

Alcoseba, who will turn 24 on November 11, clocked 2:11:53 in the elite women’s division, finishing just 29 seconds behind China’s Xinyi Xu, who won in 2:11:24, and ahead of Germxaxany’s Sophie Giebmann, who settled for bronze in 2:12:04.

The result marked a major breakthrough for the Cebuana national team member, whose previous best finishes in individual elite international competitions included sixth place in the 2024 Asia Triathlon Cup Subic Bay, seventh in the 2024 Asia Triathlon Cup Hong Kong, eighth in the 2026 Asia Triathlon Cup New Taipei, and ninth in the elite women’s event of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

It was also her first podium finish in an Asia Triathlon Cup elite women’s race, based on the results listed in her international record.

According to the Triathlon Association of the Philippines, Alcoseba’s achievement becomes even more remarkable considering that she only began seriously preparing for international competitions in June this year while pursuing a Civil Engineering degree at De La Salle University-Manila.

The silver-medal performance further bolsters the Olympic aspirations of the Cebuana star, who has publicly set her sights on qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

While Alcoseba celebrated a career-defining result, fellow Cebuano national team member Andrew Kim Remolino endured a heartbreaking outcome in the same competition.

Remolino, one of the Philippines’ most accomplished triathletes, was forced to withdraw after encountering mechanical trouble during the race. The Freeman learned that a malfunctioning bicycle chain prevented him from finishing the event.
