P8.1M aid for Mandaue barangays
CEBU, Philippines — The Liga ng mga Barangay in Mandaue City convened barangay captains to discuss how to allocate ?8.1 million in financial assistance from the Office of the Vice Governor among the city’s 27 barangays.
Liga ng mga Barangay President and ex-officio City Councilor Dante Borbajo said the funds will be used for infrastructure projects and renovations, particularly in barangay halls and day-care centers.
“Nagpatawag ko og meeting sa Liga karon kay tungod aning gihatag nga financial assistance gikan office sa vice governor,” Borbajo said in an interview last Monday.
He said he and the barangay captains discussed how the funds will be implemented in each barangay.
Borbajo said the meeting was important because some barangays had issues with their Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System accounts, which had been shut down, preventing them from implementing projects.
Some barangays also had unliquidated funds from previous administrations. In other cases, the treasurers responsible for the transactions were no longer in office.
“Mao nang maglisod na kay wala naman,” Borbajo said.
He added that the unliquidated funds involved social welfare assistance and infrastructure projects.
“Maong through Liga ang mo-implement kay di man sila pwede modawat sa province kay naa pay unliquidated,” Borbajo said.
Because of these issues, the Liga ng mga Barangay will handle the implementation of the projects, while the barangays will still identify their respective infrastructure needs.
The financial assistance will be used strictly for infrastructure projects, including the construction and renovation of barangay halls and day-care centers.
Each of the 27 barangays will receive ?300,000, with the barangay captains responsible for identifying the projects to be undertaken in their respective communities.
Once a project is identified, the city engineer will prepare the Program of Works and Estimates. The Liga will then submit the documents to the Provincial Government for approval.
Borbajo thanked the Office of the Vice Governor for including Mandaue City among the recipients of the financial assistance. — (FREEMAN)
