MANILA, Philippines — Naval units from the Philippines and the United States conducted a maritime cooperative activity (MCA) in the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday.

The US Pacific Command (PACOM) said the Armed Forces of the Philippines and US Navy conducted the 16th MCA within the Philippine exclusive economic zone.

“This activity continues to showcase our demonstrated, collective commitment to strengthening regional and international cooperation in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific,” PACOM said.

The exercise expanded capabilities by incorporating and refining shared specialized procedures and maritime doctrines.

It focused on tactical interoperability, maritime domain awareness, and included a group sail to build at-sea proficiency.

The iteration complements the work developed and refined in previous MCAs.

Participating units included one AW159 Wildcat helicopter and one C208 Caravan from the Philippine Air Force, patrol vessel BRP Melchora Aquino from the Philippine Coast Guard, guided missile frigate BRP Miguel Malvar?from the Philippine Navy and mine countermeasures ship USS Warrior from the US Navy.
