Webmasters trounce Warriors for second straight win

CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters rolled to their second consecutive victory with an 81-63 thrashing of the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 26 basketball tournament on Thursday night, Septbemer 10, at the Cebu Coliseum.

Ricofer Sordilla fired 23 points with three rebounds, one assist and two steals while Luther Leonard recorded a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double laced with four assists and one block for the Webmasters.

The game went close only in the first 10 minutes as the Webmasters pulled away for a 40-31 lead at halftime and never looked back.

The boys of coach Kernn Sesante closed the third period with a 56-46 advantage and then finished even stronger to come up with an 18-point rout.

Maverick Eligoyo also caught the eye with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal for the Webmasters, who will try to stretch their hot streak to three games as they tackle the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars at 5 p.m. today (Saturday, September 12).

James Paolo Gica paced the Warriors with 18 points, five rebounds and one assist.

Jhoernel Tangkay unloaded 15 points, seven boards and four dimes while Rey James Enriquez tallied 10 markers, three rebounds and as many assists for the Warriors, who failed to sustain their momentum following their 81-68 upset of reigning four-peat champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers.

In the juniors division, the San Carlos School of Cebu (SCSC) Baby Warriors barged into the win column after pulling off a 65-64 nail-biter over the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Greywolves.

Heath Lauren Macapil led the Baby Warriors with 13 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals.      

Lance Luther Aballe chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds while Ahron Andrei Casul added 10 points, two rebounds and two steals for the Carolinians.

Zane Oddyssie Ondoy top-scored for the Greywolves with 14 point and eight assists.

Antonio Joseph Issifu collected 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three streals while Christian Tabio Lambayan had 11 points, four rebounds and six steals but their efforts went in vain as the Bosconians stumbled again.
