Cebu Greats score impressive bounce-back victory in MPBL
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Greats rebounded from back-to-back losses at home and vented their ire on Pasig City, 108-86, in the SportsPlus Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Season 8 on Saturday, July 25, at the Orion Sports Complex in Bataan.
Alvin Baetiong delivered a career-high 23 points on an efficient 10-of-12 shooting from the field while adding seven rebounds and one assist in just 18 minutes of action as the Greats jumped to third place in the South Division with a 15-5 win-loss record.
Baetiong’s effort was complemented by Ron Dennison and Limuel Tampus, who combined for 27 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Cebu actually trailed by three, 21-24, after the first period but rallied back with aplomb to seize the upper hand, 47-43, at halftime for good.
Cebu torched 34 points in the third quarter to establish a commanding 81-58 lead going into the final 10-minute zone.
The Greats never let their guard down despite their huge advantage to preserve a 22-point blowout.
Jacob Galicia bagged 17 points with six rebounds, Keith Pido and Michael Lambino tallied an identical 14 markers, while Warlo James Batac cashed in 12 points and five assists but their efforts went for naught as Pasig fell to 9-8. – EBV
