MANILA, Philippines — The countdown to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics has begun.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino said while the next Olympics is 752 days away, preparations to qualify to the LA Games are now afoot.

“There will be sports in the Asian Games (Japan) where if you win a gold, you qualify straight to the LA Olympics. I won’t announce what sports events are those, but there will be three or four that would stake automatic Olympic slots,” said Tolentino on the sidelines of the Olympic Day celebration at the Tagaytay City Velodrome yesterday.

Team Philippines, of course, is eyeing not just to make it to LA but add more to the gold haul of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz in Tokyo and gymnast Carlos Yulo in Paris. “That’s our hope,” he said.
