CCPO chief relieved, set for reassignment

CEBU, Philippines — Police Colonel George Ylanan was formally relieved from his post as director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) effective Monday, June 8, as he marked his final day in office during the traditional Monday flag-raising ceremony at Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr.
In his farewell address before his personnel, Ylanan said he gave his best for Cebu City and expressed gratitude to the men and women of CCPO.
He will be reassigned to the Regional Comptrollership Division of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7, a unit responsible for financial management, budgeting, accounting, and administrative resource allocation.
“This is your outgoing City Director signing off. I did my best for Cebu City. To the men and women of the Cebu City Police Office, daghang salamat,” he said.
Ylanan served as CCPO director for eight months, leading efforts to strengthen peace and order, boost police visibility, and tighten coordination with local government units and barangays in the city’s anti-criminality drive.
The ceremony also featured the recognition of outstanding station commanders and was attended by Mayor Nestor Archival as guest of honor, together with Councilor Paul Labra II.
Archival and Labra were among those who reportedly supported Ylanan’s appointment to the CCPO post.
In his message, Archival thanked Ylanan for his leadership, saying his tenure helped strengthen peace and order and improve coordination between the police and the city government.
“Gikan sa katawhang Sugboanon, daghang salamat, Col. Ylanan, sa imong maayong pagdumala ug matinud-anong serbisyo,” Archival said, adding wishes for success in his next assignment.
Ylanan, a Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class 2002 graduate from Barangay Labangon, completed his degree in Computer Engineering at the University of San Carlos.
Before his CCPO assignment, he held various positions in the Philippine National Police, including earlier postings in Cebu City and service as head of the Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU) under PRO-7.
Meanwhile, PRO-7 also honored outstanding personnel during the same ceremony, recognizing achievements in law enforcement operations and public service excellence across Central Visayas.
Police Lieutenant Greg Reyes and Police Staff Sergeant Jack Refugio of the Bohol Police Provincial Office received the Medalya ng Kagalingan for a successful buy-bust operation in April 2026 in Tagbilaran City, which led to the arrest of drug personalities and the seizure of approximately 998 grams of suspected shabu worth P6.8 million.
Police Colonel Marlou Labares of PRO-7 Headquarters was awarded the Medalya ng Kasanayan for his service as Regional Pastoral Officer, strengthening spiritual programs, counseling, and values formation within the organization.
Also recognized were Police Corporal Jeson Ornopia and Pat James Daryl Aniñon of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office for a hot pursuit operation that resulted in the arrest of a shooting suspect and recovery of firearms and ammunition.
PRO-7 said the recognitions reflect its continued commitment to effective law enforcement, public safety, and sustained anti-criminality efforts in Central Visayas. — (FREEMAN)
