Borbon gets P140M in infrastructure

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Holding the top spot in the budget distribution of the Cebu Provincial Government, the municipality of Borbon had been allocated with ?140,100,166 worth of active infrastructure projects, as revealed in the Cebu Infrastructure Project Management & Monitoring System, the official information dashboard of the Capitol.

The budget is being used to fund eight projects there, including the rehabilitation of damaged bridges and the construction of a Temporary Learning Shelter, following the impact of the September 2025 quake and the onslaught of Typhoon Tino also last November.

Elizar Sabinay Jr. of the Provincial Planning and Development Office said yesterday that Borbon holds the highest budget allocation since most infrastructure projects in the municipality are under the Cebu Provincial Government while other infrastructure projects in northern Cebu such as in Bogo City, San Remigio, and Medellin are covered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Of the total amount, ?38,901,701 funds the rehabilitation of the Poblacion Borbon Bridge I while ?7,292,915 has been allocated to the rehabilitation of Poblacion Borbon Bridge II.

Meanwhile, the reconstruction of Tabunan Bridge I and Tabunan Bridge II has been funded with ?13,508,862 each.

Other bridge rehabilitation works in Cadaruhan, Tagnucan, and Cabica have been funded with ?26,675,452, ?5,576,935, and ?27,786,930, respectively.

All seven rehabilitation projects are currently ongoing with a target completion date of September 30, 2026.

However, Sabinay stressed that there is no priority ranking and that project completion will depend on the construction status.

“Naa man ‘nay number of construction days. That depends on the degree of level of damage,” he added.

Moreover, under a construction project still subject to procurement, six Temporary Learning Shelters are set to be erected in six public elementary and public high schools in Borbon with a summed budget of ?6,848,508.

Meanwhile, the town of Daanbantayan ranked second, with a budget allocation of ?79,674,095 for the reconstruction of one bridge, the development of 16 Temporary Learning Shelters, a small farm reservoir and a corn processing shed, and the upgrade of the town’s district hospital.

Ranked third is the municipality of Sogod, which secured ?73,418,243 for the rehabilitation of two bridges, the construction of 20 Temporary Learning Shelters and a corn processing shed, and the upgrade of Juan B. Dosado Memorial Hospital.

A total of ?57,092,162 was also allocated for province-owned facilities in Cebu City, with the procurement of a proposed two-story Provincial Operations Office in Lahug, Cebu City, taking the highest budget share.

Moreover, Tabogon was appropriated with ?52,985,493 for the rehabilitation of one bridge, construction of 31 Temporary Learning Shelters, and three small farm reservoirs.

Overall, Cebu Province has a total of 103 infrastructure projects, of which 61 are for procurement, 38 are ongoing, and four are completed.

The total budget allocation for this year’s development projects is ?954.9 million, with the 5th District accounting for ?308,566,501.

“We are now volunteering to take over the expenses for the rehabilitation of the 5th District,” Sabinay said, noting that the DPWH is handling the other affected towns in the north. — Jona Mariel Apurado and Jhiezel Jane Camarillo, CNU interns/BRP (FREEMAN)
