MANILA, Philippines - A 67-year-old barangay treasurer was killed by motorcycle-riding assailants in Sampaloc, Manila on Thursday night.
Jose Macaranas, treasurer of Barangay 567, Zone 55, was declared dead on arrival at the United Doctor’s Medical Center from four gunshots to the body.
Senior Police Officer 2 Richard Escarlan of the Manila Police District homicide section said Macaranas and barangay secretary Roland Aboy were sitting on a bench outside the barangay hall when the suspects opened fire, hitting Macaranas.
Aboy was unhurt in the shooting.
The assailants sped away toward Masbate street after the attack.
Police said they would review the closed-circuit television camera installed in the area for the possible identification of the suspects.
Probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing.
The victim’s family said Macaranas had no enemies and was not involved in illegal drugs.
