PNP chief seeks public cooperation on checkpoints
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa appealed to the public yesterday to cooperate with law enforcers during the conduct of checkpoints to hasten the process amid the series of bomb threats in Metro Manila.
Dela Rosa also reminded police officers and soldiers manning checkpoints to be courteous in dealing with motorists.
He assured the public that PNP and military personnel manning checkpoints would adhere to policies provided in the revised Police Operational Procedures.
Dela Rosa reminded the public of procedures during checkpoints to ensure that their rights are respected.
The PNP chief said checkpoints must be well-lighted, properly identified and manned by uniformed personnel.
“Upon approach, slow down, dim headlights and turn on cabin lights. Never step out of the car and lock all doors since only visual search is allowed during inspection,” Dela Rosa said.
“Never submit to body search. Motorists are not required to open vehicle compartment, trunk or bags. Be courteous but firm in answering, assert your rights, have presence of mind and do not panic,” he added.
Dela Rosa has ordered all police units in the country to conduct around the clock checkpoint operations and visibility patrols in Metro Manila after President Duterte declared a state of national emergency.
