Drug war: 6 suspects dead, 4 arrested

MANILA, Philippines – At least six suspected drug users and pushers were killed and four others were arrested in Metro Manila over the past two days.

Four of the drug suspects were gunned down by unidentified assailants in Caloocan City on Monday.

Christian Patrick Punla and his partner were resting in their house in Greenville Subdivision, Barangay 171 when three masked men barged in at around 1:30 a.m. and shot him repeatedly.

Police officers recovered a sachet of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Punla’s home.

Jessica Almondia, 22, the victim’s partner, told police Punla was a drug user.

At around 5:30 a.m., two unidentified assailants shot dead Mark Angelo Julaton and Aemos Cross in the latter’s house in Julaton Compound, San Isidro, Barangay 188.

Police officers said the victims were sleeping when the gunmen barged into the house. Probers said Julaton was reportedly involved in the illegal drug trade in the area.

Meanwhile, Cecilia Sumile, 44, was gunned down in her house on Saging street, Barangay 178 shortly before 10 p.m.

City police chief investigator Senior Inspector Ilustre Mendoza said Sumile was included in the police drug watchlist.

Drug den

In Mandaluyong City, two suspected drug pushers were killed and three others were arrested during a raid on a house being used as a drug den on Balimbing street in Barangay Addition Hills yesterday afternoon.

Joselito Aldon, alias Pepe Smith, 53; and Jerry Gonzales Ignacio, alias Puyo, 30, reportedly shot it out with police officers during the raid.

Ignacio died at the scene while Aldon was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

Dexter Corpuz, alias Bornok, escaped at the height of the shootout. He was the raiding team’s target, said Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, director of the Eastern Police District.

Those arrested were Corpuz’s alleged henchmen Manuel Rosagaron, 31; Alan Calimlim, 30, and RJ Cruz, 29.

Sapitula said the raiding team recovered at least 20 grams of shabu, five .38 caliber revolvers and drug paraphernalia in the house.

Boratong lieutenant falls

A woman, alleged to be one of the trusted lieutenants of convicted shabu flea market financier Amin Imam Boratong, was arrested in a sting in Pasig City on Monday, Sapitula said.

Evelyn Angeles, alias Neneng Tomboy, 43, yielded eight grams of shabu following her arrest.

“We are slowly but surely sending to jail the drug pushers working for the Boratong drug syndicate,” Sapitula said.

Boratong has reportedly been running his illegal drug business from his cell in the New Bilibid Prison’s maximum security compound.
