LTFRB suspends 9 buses over fatal road crash
MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) suspended nine buses of Cemtrans Services Inc. after one of its units figured in a fatal road crash in Quezon City on Tuesday.
LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said the nine buses plying the Grotto-NAIA and EDSA-Fairview routes, were suspended for 30 days.
Ginez said a Cemtrans bus (TYR-878) was involved in an accident along Regalado Avenue in Lagro, resulting in the death of Arman Saplan on May 24.
The suspension order was signed by Ginez and LTFRB board members Ariel Inton and Ronaldo Corpus.
Ginez ordered the operator of Cemtrans to surrender the plates of the suspended buses to the LTFRB legal division.
The bus firm was also made to explain why its franchise should not be cancelled or revoked.
The LTFRB ordered Lino Asis, driver of the bus involved in the mishap, to attend the hearing on May 31.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide have been filed against Asis.
