Woman crushed to death by train
MANILA, Philippines – A woman, said to be suffering from mental illness, was crushed to death by a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train in Sampaloc, Manila yesterday morning.
Lea Parada, 35, of Kundiman Street, died at the scene, according to Senior Police Officer 1 Rodrigo Boluntante of the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit.
Boluntante said Parada was walking several meters away from the PNR Antipolo station shortly before 7 a.m. when she was hit by the train.
The victim’s uncle, Silverio David, said his niece was suffering from a mental illness.
Boluntante said he would coordinate with the PNR management to identify the driver of the train.
Parada is the second victim of a train accident this month.
An unidentified man died after being hit by a PNR train along Blumentritt, Manila on May 4.
The man was decapitated and his body was crushed, according to PNR spokesman Paul de Quiros.
Train driver Joshua Magbanua was held for questioning after the accident.
