Peña to file poll protest vs Binay

MANILA, Philippines - Outgoing Mayor Romulo Peña is set to file an electoral protest before the Commission on Elections office in Makati City today.

Peña told reporters yesterday that his protest is anchored on allegations of massive cheating and vote buying by the camp of Makati City mayor-elect Mar-Len Abigail Binay.

Peña said that he bears no grudge against the Binay family and that his protest is for the city’s voters who have been cheated.

Around 1,000 of Peña’s supporters gathered outside the city hall yesterday afternoon to show their support for the outgoing mayor and to kick-start a fundraising drive for a possible manual recount of votes.

Peña called on his supporters to be ready for future actions to follow the filing of his electoral protest.
