Vintage bomb found at sports complex

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A construction worker digging at the Delpan Sports Complex in Tondo, Manila discovered a vintage bomb Sunday afternoon.

Sonny Boy Valentin, 23, of the E. Malaya Construction firm, was digging at around 3 p.m. when he hit “something hard,” according to Senior Police Officer 4 Modesto Pagaran of the Manila Police District’s Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD).

Valentin and his co-workers carefully pulled out a hunk of rusty metal, which was later identified by the EOD as an 81mm mortar.

Pagaran said the bomb was still intact and could explode if triggered.
