Teacher arrested for shoplifting in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines – A 36-year-old teacher was arrested at a mall in Quezon City for allegedly shoplifting P738 worth of hygiene products on Friday morning.

Hazel Salvatierra, a teacher at the New Era Elementary School, went to the health and beauty section of the mall where she allegedly picked the items and placed them inside her bag, case investigator Police Officer 2 Jonny Paluyyawon of the Batasan police station said.

Paluyyawon said Salvatierra paid P53 for the fresh fruits she picked from the supermarket. But she did not pay for the bottle of antiseptic worth P196.50; a bottle of baby oil, P78.50; a pack of toothpaste, P102; a bottle of hair spray, P60; and four packs of accessories worth P301.

Batasan police station commander Superintendent Robert Sales said Salvatierra was detained, but was eventually released after the management of the mall refused to file a complaint against her.
