INC to continue anti-poverty programs this year

Edu Punay - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – After facing controversies last year, the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) is looking at a better year this 2016 by continuing its anti-poverty programs.

Following orders from INC executive minister Eduardo Manalo, the church held an outreach program at the Maharlika Trade Center along Mindanao Avenue in Maharlika, Taguig City and distributed over 20,000 food packs to indigent residents through its Lingap sa Mamamayan program under the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation over the weekend.

Aside from receiving basic commodities, thousands of Taguig residents availed themselves of dental and medical services.

Around 1,500 medical and security personnel were deployed to ensure the safety of the beneficiaries.

The activity was conducted in coordination with the office of Yasser Garnace Pangandaman, head of Taguig’s Association of Barangay Chairmen.

The INC held another outreach program in Manila benefiting 10,000 residents from Baseco, Tondo and Parola.

INC general auditor Glicerio Santos Jr. said the church would continue its outreach projects and socio-civic activities this year to help not only its members but also poor communities around the country.

The church’s Lingap sa Mamamayan activities for 2016 kicked off at the Culiat Muslim compound on Jan. 2 coinciding with the commemoration of the birthday of former INC executive minister Eraño Manalo.
