Marikina to residents: Pay taxes on time

MANILA, Philippines – Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman urged investors and residents yesterday to settle their tax obligations and file their business permits and license applications on time.

To avoid a 20-percent penalty for the late payment of business tax, business owners are advised to register or renew their businesses starting today until Jan. 20.

According to the Marikina Revenue Code of 2013, aside from the 20-percent penalty, there will also be an added two-percent penalty for every month thereafter if the owners failed to register their business on time.

He stressed that in Marikina, the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) is a one-stop shop because of the creation of the Marikina Business Portal.

“This is a web-based information system that interconnects different offices related to business license processing. It is an electronic workflow that has a database of registered businesses and provides an opportunity for approving offices to schedule site inspections and update business records without requiring applicants to go to each office,” De Guzman said.
