Robbers target cars parked at Pasay mall

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Three car owners lost cash and valuables to robbers who broke the windows of their vehicles, which were parked at a mall in Pasay City Saturday, city police chief Senior Superintendent Joel Doria said yesterday.

Among the victims was Bryson Bundang, 19, who found the window of his Mitsubishi Space Wagon broken at around 9 p.m.

The robbers had taken Bundang’s global positioning system device.

They also stole three bags, P3,500 cash, a passport and several gadgets from the Toyota Avanza of Karl Matthew Quimpo, 19.

Jerry Munsod, 42, lost three bags, gadgets, an ATM card and P6,000 cash he left in his Toyota car. Police found a screwdriver in his vehicle.

Doria said the attack happened at the height of a concert at the mall.

“The owners are now coordinating with police to file charges against the management of the pay parking area, supposed to be secured by security guards,” he said.

He said police are now conducting follow-up operations to determine if the suspects were part of an organized group.

Doria reminded security guards to be vigilant, particularly when there are concerts and other big activities at the mall.

“We are coordinating with mall management if they have installed closed-circuit television cameras in the parking area,” he said.
