MANILA, Philippines – A retired member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines died at past midnight yesterday after he was hacked by a security guard in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City over a grudge.

Marcial Abaño, 53, had just arrived at his home on Sta. Maria street before 9 p.m. Friday when he was attacked by Aldrin Aldaya, 45, said Inspector Elmer Monsalve, who heads the Quezon City Police District’s homicide investigation section.

Abaño’s companion, carpenter Jason Poblete, 29, was also hacked by the suspect.

Monsalve said Abaño’s nephew, Joel Balbar, was about to sleep in his room when Aldaya got into their house and tried to hack at him. Balbar was able to escape.

Aldaya turned to Abaño when he saw him getting into the house.

Monsalve said Aldaya tried to attack Balbar again, but Poblete hit him and the suspect turned on Poblete instead.

Abaño and Poblete were taken to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment but Abaño die at past midnight yesterday.

Monsalve said they are hunting down the suspect, a native of Tacloban City.
