Van hits Quezon City cop
MANILA, Philippines - A Quezon City policeman detailed as part of the security force for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit was badly injured after a delivery van rammed his motorcycle in Plaza Lawton, Manila yesterday morning.
Senior Police Officer 1 Darwin Lorenzo and his colleague, Police Officer 3 Romulo Magtibay, were negotiating the southbound lane of P. Burgos street on separate motorcycles on their way to the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City when the van (WJO-931) driven by Ronald Borceles rear-ended him in front of the Mehan Garden.
The impact threw Lorenzo into the air and the van dragged the motorcycle at least 10 meters before the vehicle stopped.
The van’s windshield and Lorenzo’s motorcycle were badly damaged.
Magtibay put his colleague on his own motorcycle and rushed him to the Manila Doctors Hospital.
Manila Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit personnel arrested Borceles, who is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injury and damage to property.
At the hospital, Lorenzo noticed his service firearm was missing. Several witnesses said the gun may have fallen from Lorenzo’s holster and taken by some joggers in the area.
