‘BI agents’ held for extortion

MANILA, Philippines - Two men, who claimed to be Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents, were arrested for trying to extort money from a Malaysian man in Pasay City on Sunday, police said yesterday.

Phil Balicuat and Emmanuel Salvador were arrested during a sting set up by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, CIDG director Chief Superintendent Victor Deona said.

Wei Jie Yap asked help from the CIDG after receiving text messages saying he would be arrested if he will not give the suspects money.
