28 nabbed for drag racing in Quezon City
MANILA, Philippines – Twenty-four men and four women were caught drag racing at Barangay Kaligayahan, Quezon City at dawn Friday, an official said yesterday.
Case investigator Police Officer 3 Eden Pascua of the Fairview police station said they conducted an operation at the intersection of Commonwealth and Regalado Avenues and Jordan Plains.
Police officers seized 12 motorcycles apparently owned by some of those arrested.
Pascua said among those arrested were six tricycle drivers, five college students, a painter, a technician, a product data analyst, a service advisor, a delivery boy, a stock clerk, a factory worker and a medical representative. Nine were jobless.
The suspects are currently detained at the Fairview police station for violating City Ordinance 1013, which prohibits a person from driving a vehicle at a speed greater than “what is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and without regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.”
Violators of this ordinance will be fined at least P2,000, imprisoned for six months or both, depending on the court’s decision.
