Zamoras seek mayoral, House post

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – House of Representatives Minority Leader Rep. Ronaldo Zamora and his son, Vice Mayor Francis Zamora, filed their certificates of candidacy  (COCs) with the local Commission on Elections office yesterday to challenge the Estrada’s 46-year rule of San Juan.

The Zamoras will run under the banner of the Nacionalista Party.

The elder Zamora will seek reelection while his son will challenge Mayor Guia Gomez, who is gunning for her third and last term.

Zamora said that win or lose, his family will reconcile with the family of former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.

“I will personally would approach Estrada to reconcile our differences and continue to serve the best interest of the public,” he said.

The Zamoras were long-time allies of the Estradas but decided to challenge them after Estrada’s family filled all the available electoral posts in San Juan.

Gomez, Estrada’s partner, will have Janella Estrada, a daughter of detained Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, as her running mate. Jinggoy is Estrada’s son by his wife, former senator Loi Estrada.

The elder Zamora will be challenged by Jinggoy’s cousin, Janah, who ran for the same post and lost in 2013.

Gomez said she is open to reconciling with the Zamoras. She and her ticket will file their COCs tomorrow.
