4 Taguig barangays dengue-free
MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City government on Tuesday declared four of the city’s 28 barangays dengue-free.
Officials said the number of dengue cases in Taguig dropped by 60 percent in the first seven months of the year compared to the same period last year.
Barangays Ligid-Tipas, Napindan, San Miguel and Tuktukan had zero incidence of dengue in the first half of the year, Mayor Lani Cayetano said.
Cayetano said this could explain the sharp decline in dengue cases from 390 from January to July 2014 to 157 in the same period this year.
“This is an accomplishment of the Taguig community as well as local health officials and other stake holders,” she said.
Cayetano lauded residents for the cleanup of creeks that serve as breeding sites for the aedes aegypti mosquito, which carry the dengue virus.
