Trader dies in ambush

MANILA, Philippines - A businessman was killed in an ambush while on his way to pick up his son at a private school in Navotas City Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Melvin Cruz, 39, of Pat de Asis street, Barangay San Roque, was on his bicycle on his way to the Navotas Adventist Elementary School when a gunman blocked his path and shot him several times.

Cruz died at the scene. His assailant fled on foot after the attack. Investigators have yet to establish the motive for the killing.
