Girl, 5, killed in Pasig accident

MANILA, Philippines - A five-year-old girl was killed when she was sideswiped by a passenger jeepney in Barangay Manggahan, Pasig City Sunday.

Jhane Natalie Chiu suffered head injuries and was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

Jeepney driver Richard Ramos, 29, surrendered to police officers who responded to the accident.

Police Officer 3 Randy Tedera said Ramos was driving the jeepney along Amang Rodriguez Avenue when he heard a loud thud at around 5:30 p.m.

As the residents shouted, Ramos got out of the jeepney and saw Chiu lying on the road, bleeding.

Ramos said he did not notice Chiu crossing the road and that the jeepney’s left bumper had hit her.

Tedera said Ramos will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
