Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A photojournalist lost nearly P100,000 worth of valuables and assorted tools when thieves broke into his van as it was parked along Quirino Avenue in Manila yesterday morning.

Edong Reyes, former chief photographer of People’s Journal, went to the Manila Police District’s Station 5 and told probers that he parked his Mitsubishi L300 at the intersection of Quirino Avenue and Leon Guinto street at the height of a heavy downpour at around 2 a.m.

Reyes discovered the theft at around 9 a.m. but said there were no signs of forced entry.

Residents said robbery and theft are rampant in the area.

Reyes noted that the theft happened a week after Philippine National Police chief Director General Ricardo Marquez ordered more police officers to patrol the streets.

“If that is the case, where are the police officers on the street?” Reyes said.
