6 nabbed for car theft

MANILA, Philippines - A 22-year-old factory helper and his five friends were arrested yesterday for stealing a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Caloocan City. 

Mark Kevin Bangit, Elizaldy Delizo, 23; Benz Gaddi, 23; Arvin Arcilla, 25; Jeffrey Catalan, 24; and a 16-year-old girl, all residents of Barangay 12, were collared after a brief chase when they took the Mitsubishi Montero (RBE-08) for a joyride in Malabon and Caloocan around 5 a.m.  

Chief Inspector Ilustre Mendoza, Caloocan investigation chief, said the responding policemen caught up with the suspects when the SUV crashed into a center island along McArthur Highway.     

Caloocan police chief Senior Superintendent Bartolome Bustamante said Bangit admitted taking the key of the SUV from his employer Hanson Tan. Tan said the vehicle disappeared on July 16.
