Makati forms task force for water service cutoff

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Water tankers distributed water to households and local governments mobilized teams to assist the public as the water supply interruptions in Metro Manila’s west service sector started yesterday.

The scheduled water supply interruption of Maynilad Water Services Inc. in several areas in Metro Manila and some parts of Cavite started at 1 p.m. yesterday. Water supply will be disrupted again at 1 p.m. on Aug. 17 until 3 p.m. the following day due to maintenance work, Maynilad said.

Among the areas in Metro Manila affected by the water cutoff are Makati, Caloocan, Manila, Pasay, Parañaque, Muntinlupa and Las Piñas.

In Makati,  acting Mayor Romulo Peña Jr. formed a task force to help city residents affected by the water service interruption.

Peña said the task force aims to lessen the impact of the water supply interruption, particularly in Barangay Palanan.

“We would like to alleviate the burden of the residents for the duration of Maynilad’s maintenance work. City hall personnel will be going around the affected areas to distribute safe drinking water,” he said.

Peña said the task force is sub-divided into two teams. The first team will deliver water for daily use, with nine trucks moving around the barangay for distribution. The second team will be in charge of distributing potable drinking water.

He said water for daily use would be distributed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. Drinking water will be given from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Barangay Palanan covered court.

Affected residents may call 8335000 for assistance.

In Muntinlupa, the city government has mobilized its motor pool to distribute water to the affected areas during the water service interruption.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi asked Maynilad for additional water tankers to augment water rationing in the city.
