Boy, 10, hangs self after schoolyard fight

MANILA, Philippines - A 10-year-old boy allegedly hanged himself in their house in Barangay Poblacion, Muntinlupa City Monday night following a fight in school.

According to a report reaching the Southern Police District, the alleged suicide happened at around 7 p.m.

Initial police investigation showed that the victim, a Grade 3 pupil, arrived home from school at about 6:20 p.m.

Police said the victim watched television with his elder sister and her boyfriend.

As the boyfriend was about to leave, the boy told him a teacher scolded him, investigators said. 

The victim’s sister told police she saw her brother remove the strap from his school bag and play with it.

Later, a man arrived at the victim’s house, claiming the boy and his son had a fight.

Police said the victim’s sister looked for the boy to ask him about the alleged fight. She found her brother at the back of the house, hanging by the neck from the bag strap.

Police said the boy was rushed to the Alabang Medical Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The Muntinlupa police has started its investigation of the incident.
