DOJ files P17-M tax case vs Napoles daughter

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a P17.88-million tax evasion case against Jeane Napoles, daughter of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles, before the Court of Tax Appeals.

CTA records show that the two counts of violation of the National Internal Revenue Code were filed before the tax court Tuesday.

The DOJ resolution finding probable cause to indict her for tax evasion was released on Sept. 11, 2014.

The DOJ ordered the filing of charges against Napoles for allegedly failing to file an income tax return from 2011 to 2012.

The case stemmed from the P32-million tax evasion case lodged against her by Bureau of Internal Revenue.

The DOJ, however, approved the filing of the case on basic tax liabilities amounting to P17.88 million.

Earlier, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said she ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to look into reports that Napoles has returned from London.

De Lima asked state prosecutors to verify if a warrant has been issued for Napoles’ arrest.

The younger Napoles has been criticized by netizens after her social media posts on her luxurious lifestyle went viral online.

The CTA has yet to raffle off the case against Napoles.
