More Pinoys seeking jobs in New Zealand, Australia
MANILA, Philippines - More Filipinos are seeking employment in construction companies in New Zealand and Australia, a recruitment agency reported yesterday.
The Australia and New Zealand Association of Employment Providers of the Philippines Inc. (ANZAEPP) said they recorded a surge in the number of job applicants after the government announced a no placement policy for workers to be deployed in New Zealand and Australia.
There have been reports of excessive and illegal collection of placement fees, but the group assured prospective applicants that they are exerting efforts to address the matter.
ANZAEEP said they are coordinating with employers in New Zealand and Australia as well as pastoral care groups in promoting the welfare of overseas Filipino workers.
The group warned job seekers not to deal with consultancy firms to avoid problems.
It said several workers fell victim to illegal recruitment companies.
“Frequent violations reported were illegal collection of fees for immigration services, airfare expenses and placement fee overcharging as much as $13,000 per worker,” it said.
