Convicted killer stabs drug pusher at NBP hospital
MANILA, Philippines - A murder convict stabbed a fellow inmate, who is serving a sentence for drug pushing, at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Hospital before dawn Tuesday.
Rogelio Botoc used scissors to stab Arelito Alivio three times at the hospital’s Ward 3, where they were confined, until the prison guards subdued him, NBP officer-in-charge Superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf said.
“The victim was transferred to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa while the suspect was arrested and placed in a solitary cell,” Schwarzkopf told The STAR.
He added that Botoc may have attacked Alivio over a grudge.
NBP personnel conducted another raid of the prison’s maximum security compound to search for improvised weapons in the inmates’ cells.
There are more than 14,000 inmates staying in dormitories within the maximum security compound.
