Erap hits new Intramuros traffic scheme
MANILA, Philippines - The Intramuros Administration (IA) must coordinate with the city government before it can implement its new traffic scheme, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada said yesterday.
The IA started enforcing the traffic scheme Monday.
In a telephone interview with The STAR, Estrada said traffic management in the country is under the local government units.
Estrada said the city government will support any IA policy if it is for the good of the majority. He said he believes the IA and Manila’s traffic czar, Vice Mayor Isko Moreno, have discussed the new scheme, “but it must not be implemented until it is coordinated with the city government.”
The IA notified the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Manila Traffic Parking Bureau, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board about the new traffic scheme.
Aside from rerouting traffic, the scheme also prohibits parking around Plaza Roma, along Andres Soriano Avenue, Cabildo and Gen. Luna streets, and Muralla street on the side of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
