Ex-LRA employee fined for solicitation

Michael Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A Quezon City court fined a former Land Registration Authority employee P3,000 after finding her guilty of soliciting P250,000 from a client, the Office of the Ombudsman said yesterday.

In 2006, Florzerfida Asuncion, who worked as an administrative aide in the agency’s records section, demanded P250,000 from Marilou Galenzoga in exchange for research to be done on a parcel of land claimed by Galenzoga, according to court records.

Asuncion failed to meet the research deadline and refused to return the money.

Metropolitan Trial Court Judge Lyn Cacha found Asuncion guilty of violating Section 7(d) of Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

Cacha also ordered Asuncion to return the P250,000 plus interest of six percent per year.
