MANILA, Philippines - Residents in Metro Manila woke up to another chilly morning yesterday with the temperature dipping to 18.1 degrees Celsius.

This was the coldest temperature recorded so far in Metro Manila since the northeast monsoon set in last October, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The lowest temperature was recorded in the vicinity of the PAGASA Science Garden in Diliman, Quezon City at 6:20 a.m.

Yesterday’s temperature beat Monday’s temperature of 18.5 degrees Celsius.

PAGASA said the strong northeast monsoon will continue to affect most parts of Luzon until mid-February, bringing lower temperatures and light rains.

Last year, the coldest day in Metro Manila was recorded on Jan. 26 at 15.8 degrees Celsius.

The coldest temperature in Metro Manila was registered twice, on Feb. 4, 1987 and Dec. 30, 1988, at 15.1 degrees Celsius.
