Department of Public Works and Highways eyes Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue rehab this summer

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is planning to rehabilitate EDSA by pouring high-grade asphalt on the road’s surface this summer, an official said yesterday.

DPWH-National Capital Region director Reynaldo Tagudando said prior to going full-blast on the P3-billion project, they would conduct a dry run by laying high-grade asphalt on a segment of EDSA from Guadalupe to Gil Puyat Avenue in February or March.

He said if the dry run is successful, parts of EDSA may be closed, “but that would depend on the road construction method” that would be used.

Tagudando said the DPWH will coordinate with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to ease traffic gridlocks.

High-grade asphalt dries in five hours while regular asphalt takes three days, he added.
