Burning bus snarls traffic in Makati

Commuters and motorists look on as a bus burns in Makati City yesterday.

MANILA, Philippines - A bus caught fire along the Ayala Avenue-EDSA interchange during the afternoon rush hour yesterday, causing a traffic gridlock.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the burning Fairview-bound Mannrose bus (UVB-618) was spotted by its Metrobase through closed-circuit television cameras at around 4:45 p.m.

The Metrobase said a team from the MMDA’s Road Emergency Group was deployed to the scene.

No one was reported hurt in the fire, the MMDA Metrobase said in a tweet. The MMDA said the bus passengers managed to get out of the bus after the driver noticed smoke coming from the rear of the bus, where the engine is located.

The MMDA Metrobase said the fire was put out by 5:25 p.m. Arson investigators will look into the cause of the fire.
