3 men hunted for cabbie’s slay
MANILA, Philippines - Police are hunting down three young men who shot dead a 60-year-old taxi driver early yesterday morning in Malabon City.
Reports said Gerardo Crias, of Barangay Longos, was waiting for passengers at the corner of Maya-Maya street and Dagat-Dagatan Avenue at past 3 a.m. when three armed men approached him and ordered him to yield his earnings.
A witness told The STAR that Crias fought off and wounded one of the suspects before he was gunned down.
Investigators said the victim suffered four gunshot wounds and severe head injuries. Responding barangay watchmen rushed him to the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have launched a manhunt for a certain “Yiro,” who is said to be the leader of the group, and his two cohorts.
Probers said Yiro is wanted for a string of robberies in the city.
