MIAA donates travelers’ lost items to fire victims

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) donated items unclaimed from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s lost and found section to victims of a fire that ravaged Barangay Apolonio in Quezon City last Jan. 1, an official said yesterday.

The donated items include clothes, sweaters, coats and jackets, footwear, baby needs, plastic containers, water jugs, kitchen utensils, cups, mosquito nets, sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, towels, comforters, bed matting and empty suitcases.

The items were unclaimed six months after they were sent to the lost and found section. MIAA media affairs head Connie Bungag said this practice is in accordance with a 2010 circular stipulating that lost and found items could be donated to MIAA-sponsored outreach programs.

“As part of MIAA’s corporate social responsibility, the thousands of residents of Barangay Apolonio in Quezon City, who were affected by the fire on New Year’s Day, were chosen as beneficiaries,” Bungag said.
