MANILA, Philippines - Six of 16 detainees who escaped from the Cubao, Quezon City police station’s jail before dawn Wednesday have been recaptured, police said yesterday.

Rigor Alejandrina, 30, charged with theft and shoplifting, was arrested along Kamatsili street in Quezon City at around noon.

Another escapee, Thomas Evan Labutong, 25, was recaptured in Barangay Kaunlaran, also in Quezon City, less than an hour after Alejandrina’s arrest.

Two detainees – Robert Lacaba, charged with alarm and scandal; and Benedict Guinto (charged with violating City Ordinance 1521, which penalizes the possession of deadly weapons) – were recaptured Wednesday afternoon.

Rape and robbery suspect John Patrick Dionido and Emerson Castro, who was charged with frustrated homicide, have surrendered to police officers.

A manhunt for 11 more escapees from the police station is ongoing.

City police chief Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao sacked station commander Superintendent Wilson delos Santos and duty desk officer Senior Police Officer 1 Jade Gavina.

Superintendent Marlou Martinez was designated as the police station’s officer-in-charge.
